What this means
The state average is the simple mean retail price of a gallon of regular unleaded across Washington. Most Washington drivers fill up 2-4 times a month, so a 25-cent swing on a 14-gallon fill is ~$14 — meaningful at the household level.
What you can do
- Use GasBuddy or AAA Washington to find the cheapest station within 5 miles before filling up.
- Fill up early in the week — Washington prices tend to rise Wed-Fri ahead of the weekend.
- Pay with cash at independent stations — many discount $0.05–$0.10/gal vs. credit.
